About The Chinatown Blog

The Chinatown Blog is a collection of stories and events related to Boston Chinatown and the Asian American community in Massachusetts.

The Chinatown Blog began in March 2007 and was started by a group of young people trying to explain to their elders what a blog is and why anyone would read a blog. The idea for the blog originated from how to disseminate information to residents and the community about Chinatown land development and planning issues. The Chinatown Blog is owned and managed by the Chinatown Gateway Coalition. The mission of the Gateway Coalition is to advocate for land developments in the interest of Chinatown through community planning processes.

A blog was a cost-effective and simple way to share information on planning and development issues as opposed to an organizational newsletter. Over time, the blog evolved to cover other news such as culture, history, and food, — issues not included when the blog was first started.

To write for the Chinatown Blog, there are 2 criteria that must be followed:

1) Postings must relate to Chinatown (geographic) or Asian Americans (population) in Massachusetts.

2) No offensive material, unsubstantiated rumors, or news that may cause harm to other individuals/businesses/institutions will be tolerated.
