Ever since the iPhone came out this time last year, hackers have been playing a cat and mouse game with Apple and AT&T to unlock the iPhones so the phones can be used on another network other than AT&T. An unlocked iPhone allows the owner to install 3rd party applications for the phone. However, unlocking will void the warranty.
So what does this have to do with Chinatown? Unlocked iPhones have become a niche market in some Chinatown stores. Wall Street analysts for both Apple and AT&T estimate that about roughly 20% of all sold iPhones end up being unlocked. We can assume that some of these end up in a shop like this on Tyler Street:

Local author Amy Kwei will read her first novel, Intrigue in the House of Wong. Wendy Wong, a Chinese American teenager whose family-owned restaurant just moved from Chinatown New York to the posh Upper East Side. Wendy befriends her neighbors and helps to integrate her family into the new community. Intrigue and suspense abounds when Wendy and her boyfriend are kidnapped. The two teens manage to escape and even rescue the Israeli Ambassador.
This action-packed novel combines mystery and humor, explores the experiences of a Chinese American youngster who successfully straddles two cultures.
Suitable for 6th to 12th grade readers and adults, this book will be for sale at a discounted price and available for signing. Proceeds benefit BCNC’s Youth Center. This event is free. Families are welcome.
