Update on Boston Arts Academy relocation to Chinatown

Former Don Bosco School
The past year rumors have floated about Boston Arts Academy’s intentions to relocate to a site adjacent to the former Don Bosco school (now occupied by the Chinatown YMCA and Double Tree Hotel). This blog has been following the progress of these rumors since October 2007. Nothing has been publicly stated by the school or the City. However, a meeting was held recently by the City confirming plans to relocate the school to the site.

Word on the street is that a meeting was arranged by the City with “interested” parties. This “invite-only” meeting was attended by a City Councilor, the Boston Redevelopment Authority, a representative from the City’s Inter-Agency Affairs, the Boston Arts Academy, and the Boston Public School. The City is exploring options to relocate the Boston Arts Academy to the parcel known as P12 and to integrate a library on the site.

In the coming months, there will be further talks (and backroom deals) but this is the first time the City and school has confirmed their intentions to the Chinatown community.

Rage Against the Venting Machine

Coke Machine

You may have passed this Coke vending machine on your way walking pass the Tufts Medical Center atrium. Just to let you know, the Chinatown Blogger despises this Coke vending machine. Twice the machine has taken money without giving the Blogger the coke (diet of course) he needs. Yesterday was the last straw. With temperatures hovering near 90 degrees, the machine asked, “Thirsty?”

So the Blogger dropped a $1 bill and 2 quarters. The machine laughed, spitted out the 2 quarters, and kept the dollar. Banging and kicking the stupid machine was of no avail and drew the interest of the nearby janitor. The Blogger decided to get revenge. Today he went back to take this offending machine’s photo to let all 3 readers of this blog know. Perhaps this machine will change its criminal ways after being shamed in public.

(FYI: While there to take the photo today, another victim said his money was stolen as well.)
